Does RemotePhoto provide identity verification?
No - not in the strict sense of the term. RemotePhoto provides helpful tools to facilitate and accelerate ID verification, but customers are still responsible to ensure that their credential provisioning process is performing all reasonable due diligence.
What can RemotePhoto do?
- RemotePhoto can perform a check of supporting documents to ensure that the users clearly intended to submit an ID document and did not accidentally submit a second photo of themselves. For example, this clearly false document passes this test. This is an intentionally simple check to prevent human error and is not intended to verify the validity of the ID document.
- RemotePhoto can compare facial comparison to ensure that the faces found in the user’s submitted photo and the user’s supporting document match with a high degree of accuracy. Generally speaking, this automated comparison is more accurate than most humans.
- RemotePhoto can read the supporting document and ensure the presence of certain key words, i.e. first name, last name, address, etc.
What CANNOT RemotePhoto do?
RemotePhoto is not a “Know Your Customer” (KYC) solution similar to what you may have experienced when opening a bank account online. It is not connected to any government databases and cannot verify the validity of any supported document.
