Understanding Photo and Person History
RemotePhoto provides full transparency into the automated photo lifecycle. By reviewing the History log, administrators can see exactly how a photo was processed, why it was denied, and every manual or automated change made to a cardholder’s record.
This feature is particularly useful for responding to cardholder inquiries like, "Why was my photo denied?" or for auditing the automated decisions made by the RemotePhoto Butler.
Prerequisites
- You must have Administrator or Director level permissions in RemotePhoto.
- The cardholder must have already submitted a photo or had an account action performed.
How to View the History Log
To see the timeline of events for a specific cardholder:
- Navigate to the Edit Person page for the cardholder in question.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to the History section.
- Click the LOAD HISTORY button.

Understanding the Photo History Preview
Once the history is loaded, you will see a chronological list of every action taken on the account, with the most recent actions at the bottom.
Visual Timeline
For events involving photo processing (such as a photo being rotated, cropped, or approved), a thumbnail preview will appear next to the log entry. This allows you to see the state of the photo at that exact moment in time.
- View Larger Image: Click on any thumbnail in the history log to open a large preview of that specific version of the photo.
- Identify Changes: Use the thumbnails to verify how the RemotePhoto Butler adjusted the image (e.g., seeing the "before and after" of an automated crop).

Reviewing RemotePhoto Butler Data
If a photo was Auto-Denied or flagged, you can view the specific technical reasons why.
- Locate the log entry for the photo update.
- Click the Blue Icon (external link) located next to the thumbnail.
- The Edit Photo details will open in a new browser tab, allowing you to keep your place in the history log.

In the new tab, you will see the RemotePhoto Butler analysis, including:
- Label Detected: Specific checks like "Head height," "Eyes open," or "Natural background."
- Confidence Score: The percentage of certainty the RemotePhoto Butler had for each label.
- Resulting Suggestion: Whether the specific label triggered an "Auto Deny", "Recommend Deny", "Make No Recommendation", ect.

Overriding Automated Decisions
If you determine that a photo was denied incorrectly or if you wish to manually approve a photo that didn't meet certain criteria:
- Within the Edit Photo view (opened from the history log), review the deny reasons.
- If the photo is acceptable, click the Checkmark or Approve button.
- Navigate back to the History log and click LOAD HISTORY again. You will see a new entry showing that the status was changed from DENIED to APPROVED, along with the name of the admin who performed the override.

:::note Pro-Tip: Keep Your Place When reviewing multiple photos in a history log, always use the Blue Icon to open details. Because it opens in a new tab, you won't have to re-scroll and re-load the history on the main page after checking a specific photo's "HelperBot" scores. :::
